Steveston’s Arts Connection was named the winner of the 2019 Business Excellence Award in the category of Business Leadership by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce on November 21st at their Annual Gala Dinner which celebrates extraordinary Richmond businesses. Out of 10 categories, 30 finalists and 240 nominations, expert judges selected winners based on strict criteria that considered financial results, innovative qualities, employee and customer relations and economic and social benefits to the community. The company is proud to have been selected for its creativity, commitment, experience and strong leadership in the increasingly challenging child care industry.
Linda Shirley, CEO and Head of School, has devoted over 30 years in bringing her vision to fruition, and has since built a leading arts and education hub in Richmond with a strong dedication to the wider community. She has attributed the company’s success to the less apparent but more impactful aspects of leadership that role models empathy, respect, a strong work ethic and a standard of excellence.
Upon receiving the award, Linda Shirley, CEO and Head of School had sound advice for the many young entrepreneurs in attendance: “Never give up on your vision, your dream, always maintain your integrity and always be grateful, as I am, for the family, friends and colleagues who have supported you throughout that journey because without them it might not have been possible. Lead by example and your rewards will come back a hundred-fold – rewards that can’t be measured with a trophy or an award.”
