Play is the work of children and our Renaissance Explorers Parent and Me Program is a hands-on class lead by our Renaissance Baby Program Manager, Ms.Crystal, where young explorers take part in developmentally-appropriate learning experiences with the guidance, support and comfort of a parent and guardian.
This program also guides parents in recognizing and supporting their children’s emerging interests and abilities and through a strong partnership with the teacher, our explorers will build a sense of belonging, confidence and independence in this program where self-expression, self-esteem, creativity, imagination, and the opportunity to create and venture are front and centre.
Ms.Crystal brings with her a wealth of experience and passion for teaching and interacting with infants, toddlers and preschool children and is excited to be spearheading this program.
This program is a family’s first step into our school’s vibrant community and a wonderful way of finding support and friendship with other parents and guardians. Our Community Coffee morning is a welcoming environment to share experiences, questions and insights on parenting while allowing for a soft start in free play for the children. We warmly greet our families each day to create a sense of warmth and familiarity into this space of fun and learning.
Our Music and Movers Circle welcomes each explorer and their special adult and provides for a natural start to the morning. We will celebrate each of our little explore’s creative expression and imagination while developing their gross motor skills, balance and coordination and awareness of their own bodies, through music, movement and play! Movement is a natural instinct that every child has given music and space, creating a perfect environment for bonding as parent and child share their own unique expression and joy in moving and grooving together.
Art exploration centers are set up around the room that focus on sensory, fine motor, dramatic play and art. Each explorer and their special adult will rotate through the three stations in 10 minute increments.
All four hands will dig in as explorers and their special adult discover the world of shapes, shades, colour, structure and textures in creative art stations that introduce children to a wide medium of art materials. Combining sensory exploration and play with activities that develop fine motor skills, families will enjoy creating together and bonding through fantastically fun art projects in a relaxed and stimulating setting. Purposeful materials and activities allow children to deeply explore their senses and capacities.
The morning ends where it started, where everyone gathers back in circle to mark the end of a fun and meaningful morning. Through gentle songs and finger play, children will transition into the rest of their day with a new sense of curiosity and wonder.
“I believe each child should be valued for their unique qualities and should be encouraged to express their own thoughts, needs, and feelings. I am always passionate and playful and thoroughly enjoy working with children.”
Crystal Huang has worn many different hats at Renaissance Kids over the past five years. She joined the team as a full-time Junior Kindergarten teacher after successfully finishing her practicum with us. During her time, her passion for working with even younger children blossomed and as a result, she joined our Renaissance Baby (Infant and Toddler) Program after a year to gain more practice and knowledge working with our youngest learners.
Prior to joining Renaissance Kids, Crystal worked in various high position management roles in the telecommunication field. It was at this time that she also started volunteering at a childcare facility where she discovered her love for teaching children in their early years. This motivated her to pursue a career as a professional Early Childhood Educator, completing her Family Child Care Education through the BC Child Care Resource and Referral Centre. She then went on to complete her certification as an ECE teacher at Sprott Shaw College where she was recognized with a scholarship as the “Honor Student with Outstanding Performance” in 2013.
Her strength and passion as a teacher in the Renaissance Baby Program, coupled with her strong managerial skills, made her the perfect candidate for her current role as the Renaissance Baby Program Manager. She currently leads a teaching team of 13 and is responsible for 51 students in the program.
She is excited to launch and teach the Renaissance Explorers Program and welcome families into the Renaissance Kids community.
